Another National Day for Singapore just zipped past. It's the 42nd one already? I gave up counting after the 25th one...
The question popped in my head today. If I have to fight for Singapore, what am I fighting for? I have nothing here. My education here was one of a road less-traveled and my National Service enlistment was informed 2 days in advance. I have nothing to fight for here. In fact, all my life, I've been FIGHTING IT.

It seems there is no need to feel like fighting for anything on this sunny, first-world island. We're well-fed, far away from the horrors of war-torn lands -- even the news feed us censored versions of the bloodshed that is truly happening.
But I believe when the day comes that our very way of life is threatened, we will face it like good Singaporeans. I hope none of us will see the day, but I'm pretty sure patriotism will surface when there is truly a need for it. :) For now, let's enjoy the peace.
